final reflection

i think this project went really well and the relationship i had with my partner, simon bates was very good as well. the difference between this and say a commission is that i wasn't just asked to go and make something. simon bates was there communicated with me every step of the way. we were working together instead of me working for him. i knew early on that the most important thing was to have a strong relationship with my partner. the final product wouldn't have been as good if the relationship was wrong. luckily me and simon got on really well and he always stopped to listen to what i had to say. simon was impressed with my creativity and communication skills. when he came in to hear everyones pitches for the fiver night trailer, he said to me that he thought my idea had a lot of potential. while i was filming at the junction on the night of the fiver, i went around interviewing almost all of the junction staff and the bands. simon said that my approach was very professional and i didn't interrupt the show which was the most important thing during the fiver. i didn't want to feel as if i was in the way so i made sure that i got what i needed straight away preventing causing too much hassle.

overall i feel that this project was great. i was abit nervous at the beginning of the project because i wasn't sure if i was going to get a partner to work with for my interaction project. i looked into a lot of ideas as to what i could do, looking around my local businesses and cinemas, and i didn't get any replies when i tried contacting them about it. luckily simon bates got back to me and the project was really fun. it took me out of college and into the real world. that's how it felt to me anyway. i was treated like a professional and because of this, i think it shows in my final video.

feedback from simon bates on our finished promo videos

simon bates didn't come in himself but he did email us feedback after watching our finished videos on vimeo. there were key areas that needed to be included and he gave each group a mark out of 5 for each area. this is what my group got ( me alex and hayden). we didn't score low on any areas, 3/5 being the lowest, but he wasn't overly satisfied with the video as a whole. he was expecting something a lot more hard hitting and dramatic i think. he did think that some areas were shown better than the other groups though. simon's issue with our video was it didn't hold together as well as the others, and that he really liked our pitch, more so than the final video.

Live footage: 3/5

Made good use of the lighting and active shots. Great build up but did not follow the way that the scene had been set.

Requirements for getting in: 3/5

Covers this point.

What you get if your band is accepted: 5/5

Covered this point really well and effectively.

How to apply: 5/5

Well illustrated

It must be contemporary: 4/5

Like the lifestyle 'live your dream'. Good effects.

Fast: 3/5

Fast section gains interest but overall video is slightly short.

Appeals to the 14-17 age range: 3/5

Would appeal to the upper part of this age group but not earlier part.

Supply all relevant information: 4/5

Yes.

General comments:

Many good ideas went into this and many of them seem to be on the cutting room floor. It's a great video but suffers slightly on contemporary feel and how many of the original ideas were left behind. it does demonstrate good use of editing though and highlights key areas well such as how to apply and requirements which are crucual areas.

logos needed for promo video

Before we finished our videos simon bates gave us a folder of eight logos that we should place at any point during our video. We simply had to display all of them at least once. These logos were those of the organisations that had been involved with assisting or funding this project. He explained that it was vital for these to be included in the videos. the reason being that you must highlight key players invloved as a sign of appreciation and a way of showing people who was invloved.

This is the junction logo. this is one of the main organisations invloved in the project and the organisation we interacted with for the project. we had already placed this logo in our video and its placement was secure. we found footage that was perfect to put the logo over. the footage was of an amplifier. the amplifier had the shadow of a guitarist on it. we slowed down the footage and had the junction logo appear in the centre. just a fade in and out effect was used. it looked really good and defined what the junction is.

skillset was invloved in funding the project. early on skillset gave the junction funding for the project because they were interested in it. they also were the ones who wanted us to design a documentry about our experiences working with the junction.

the arts council were also invloved with funding the project. with out the funding we got, we wouldn't have been able to do certain things. we wouldn't have been able to go to bourneworth and get knowledge from post graduates and get feedback helping us make the promotional videos better.

cambridge regional college (CRC) is another college that is doing the creative and media diploma. we needed to represent their logo for this reason, and because they too have worked with the junction.

parkside college is another college that is studying for the creative and media diploma. they too have collaborated with the junction on several projects including theatre production work.

this here is our logo for the creative and media diploma. this is needed because we are another of the leading organisations involved in this project.

this is the long road sixth form logo. this is the college we go to and are currently studying the creative and media diploma at.

The Quality Badge for Learning Outside the Classroom is a scheme that our client, simon bates, is involved in. It is awarded to organisations that assist work related learning in out of classroom activities. therefore in this case it would be the junction collaborating with long road studnets to help them obtain their creative and media diploma. the junction have let us film in there stage area and have had talks with us about industry life.

finished promotional video

after making the changes that the client demanded and the advice given to us from the people at bourneworth university, we developed our video and uploaded it to vimeo. we then sent it to simon so he could look over it and give us feedback. in the end we decided to make 2 seperate videos. one highlighting the information that simon wanted us to portray in the promo, also given it a contemporary look at fast paced feel, and the other video is my the effects side of what simon wanted. the second video is shorter, it's quicker, it's more relevant to our research and the overall style of it was what simon wanted out of us. in the end we realised that we couldn't demonstrate everything simon wanted from us in one video because it wouldn't have worked. when it was still in the editing stage, and it was one video, i showed my teacher and even he said it would work better as two seperate videos. that's what we decided to do in the end.
