health and safety while editing

we've done a lot of editing for this project. while doing it, we've made sure that we've had shorts breaks away from the computer. staying infront of a computer for too long isn't good for you so we had 5minutes breaks every hour and a half (every lesson). also not all of the lesson was spent on the computer so it was more like a hour.

because we were working with sound as well, it was a promo for a gig after all, we made sure the sound wasn't too loud. we wore headphones for most of the time so if it was too loud we would have damaged our ears.

risk assesement for filming at the fiver

when we got to the junction the other week, the first thing we went through was the risk assesement. there were a lot of things that we couldn't do and things we had to be careful about.

we couldn't use the cherry picker to film. the reason was obvious, if anything happened the junction would get in trouble.

we were given ear plugs so that the sound of the live gig didn't affect our ears too much

if we were filming close to the stage, we were recommended to wear our headphones. the good thing about this was you could turn down the ound on the camera so the sound wasn't too overwhelming.

they recommended we had 5minute sitdowns after filming for an hour. we were on our feet all night so this was a good idea.

we couldn't spend too much time backstage while the bands were going on and off. the reason being that they were moving instruments around and there wasn't much room backstage. we would have slowed them down.

there was a specific space on stage where we could film, and it was close to the edge. while filming on stage we had to be careful and bare in mind the lack of room we had.

we didn't need to get people to sign model release forms while filming them because on the tickets it says that there might be filming or camerawork done so this wasn't an issue. anyone who buys a ticket has agreed to be filmed.

editing after feedback from simon

when i began editing the other day, my teacher looked over it first and he believed that the rapid cutting at the end wasn't needed and was repeating footage from the sequences at the beginning so didn't work. i explained that the client liked that part of the video and wanted to keep it. what i did was i took the rapid cutting off at the end and made a seperate video. i named it the junction promo trailer. it gave all the information out but quicker than the actual promo video.

i put the logos at the end and in between sequences i put information written in the same font as the junction logo on blank screen. the transitions between sequences worked with the music that i put over them. the songs were taken from the footage taken at the fiver. there were only afew that were in good recorded quality. other songs recorded sounded abit tinny and the sound levels weren't all the same. the songs i chose were the ones that worked best. for the 'how to apply' footage, i felt that it didn't show the information clearly enough. i went back and decided to write the information up between certain shots. before editing the sequence showed you how to apply but didn't tell you how. the information wasn't clear enough. after going back and writing it up i showed some people in the class and they all said that it was better. i then exported the video and the length of the video was 1.45minutes. this length is directly between the lengthssimon had said was okay. i'm happy with the editing i got done today. the promo looks reallt professional now.

feedback from simon

after editing we quickly made a second roughcut ready to show simon because he was coming in the next day. when he came in we showed him our video and explained how he felt and what we needed to change. after he watched it he said that the idea we had chosen would only work if it hung together. he was referring to the transitions. he also fewlt that the voiceover needed to be louder, we knew that this was an issue so this was okay. he wanted more footage of theyounger band as well. he felt that there was too much footage of the more experienced bands and that it would put off younger bands with less experience. he wanted the logos of the coorporations involved in the video as well, i asked him if it was okay if we put them at the end and he said tht was fine. we also need to include more information. information including bands needing experience etc.

i asked him if 1.30-2.00 minutes in length would be okay and he said that a length between that would be fine.

everything that he told us is quite straight forward to improve and work on so i'm just going to make the changes that simon wants and then export the video.

editing after feedback

after editing for one day (after getting feedback from class and bourneworth) the video looks much better. hayden wasn't in for the session so it was just me and alex. me and alex split the video up into seperate sequences. we then changed the order of the sequences. the first sequence was the sound check footage, then the 'how to apply' footage. then the rapid cutting in the style of the navy advert we used as inspiration was at the end. the things we had to include were a montage at the beginning of the fiver footage. this was a response to the feedback we got. also, we felt that it made more sense because it was the basis behind the promo. the reasoning for the video was to promote the fiver, starting with footage from it would jump straight into the action and instantly appeal to the target audience, bands.

me and alex went through the footage we had and picked out footage of the fiver that looked good. we needed footage that looked different, different angles, different bands etc. after we did this we tried thinking of transitions between sequences that would keep the pace of the promo video. before the video kept on slowing down between sequences because they faded to black.

response to feedback from bourneworth

after we got the feedback from bourneworth we went back to our edit and changed the order of the video. they said that the beginning didn't work as a promotional video to advertise the fiver, it was more a video for advertising working with professionals. what we're going to do is make a sequence at the beginning using fiver footage. this will make the promo get straight into the action.

other things i need to do in response to the bourneworth feedback is:
redo the narration
start video with live footage
sound levels need redoing
get rid of light effects
scrap text infront of text
make the information more straight forward

bourneworth feedback

the other day we went to bourneworth and mentors their gave us feedback on our rough cuts so far. it was a good experience because they gave constructive criticism. they weren't worried about hurting our feels like the teachers sometimes do with our work. they just told us straight.

bourneworth feedback:

voice over too quiet
sound levels are different
not enough live footage to demonstrate junctions potential
needs to begin with the live footage/ jump straight into it
text over text doesn't work
needs a better beginning

response to feedback from class

what we are going to do now is give our promo video more narrative. the sequence at the moment isn't in the right order, the feedback we got was that it shows solid info about the sound check but not the gig itself or the 'how to apply', so we're going to go back and make sequences for the fiver itself and put it in the right order.

it also needs more information as well so i'm going to go back and give the video more info. this won't be too hard to do, basically all that entails is finding footage that highlights the questions that need answering. such as how to apply and what the junction has to offer and such.

feedback from class

what the video needed to include:
Live footage of The Fiver
What the requirements are for getting in
What you get if your band is accepted
How to apply
It must look contemporary Appealing to the 14 – 17 age group
Supply all the relevant information

what feedback did we get:
Well edited, exciting imagary
Doesn't show that there needs to be some experience first
Sets out idea that you work with technician but comes across more as a process than a learning experience
Provides info
Contemporary feel, using references to adverts and films
Great build up and speed, like the drop to slower temp. Build this up more if you can
yes- appropriate for age group

rough cut for fiver promo

this is the rough cut for the fiver promo. this is the video that will be taken to bourneworth and post-graduates will look over it and state their opinion. i like to think they'll say the same thing as me.

Junction Fiver Promo from cmdiploma on Vimeo.

editing the fiver promo - 3

on the last day of editing we had a lot of work to do. we needed to find a way to make the sound check montage at the beginning work, and we also needed to film footage for the applying part of the video. it's the most important part in a way because it shows bands how to apply and play at the junction. the live footage and sound check footage sells the fiver and gets bands interested but without the information on how to apply, they'll never get that chance.
the first thing we did was we filmed alex cliking away on the computer, sites such as myspace and the junctions website. we got a great shot of alex's eye. you can see the screen in his eye. this shot is used a lot in films. it shows the connection between the person and the computer. the directors cut of bladerunner uses the same shot. it was just an experiment but the shot worked really well and gave the video a more professional look and feel about it. after we filmed the footage we needed we uploaded it and filled in the gaps that needed filling. we then made a sequence at the end that explained how to apply.
after we had finished editing the rough cut, i watched over and liked what i saw, but there were obvious parts that didn't work. the sound check sequence was still at the beginning, it didn't work. the way i said it would work was if there was a sequence for the live footage and applying as well. the sound check footage was about 30seconds long and was cut quickly. if there were similar sequences for applying and the actual fiver event, it wouldn't have been so bad. the client wanted live footage, and we just didn't have enough. also, over the sequence on how to apply, there was a song that didn't fit either. you could tell that the video was rushed last minute. we have time to complete it and make it better but it's just a shame that the rough cut looks the way it does. it's got some really good material in it but there are obvious mistakes that bring the enitre video down.
me and the rest of the group know the mistakes are and are happy with the changes we need to make.

editing the fiver promo - 2

the next day we started editing to the sotryboard. me and alex came up with a script and we took a camera to a quiet room and recorded alex saying the lines. the lines were very simple but we didn't know the best way to approach it. we thought that if we said each line and then left a pause, we could cut them to the drum beat. or of course we could just say it and make each one a little quicker each time, this was what we intended for the final video, a rapid promo giving detailed information quickly. we decided to do it both ways. alex did it afew times and kept on missing out a line, there were a lot so it wasn't a big deal. we just did it again until he got it right, which he did. we took it back to hayden who was editing and we uploaded it. we then put it on the timeline and started putting footage over each of the narrations to symbolise what it was trying to provoke. some things we didn't have footage for. for example, we didn't have footage for 'how to apply', so we left that balnk for now.
after we cut to the sequence and put the narration in the final video length was only just over a minute. it wasn't long enough. we had to think of something that would make our video longer. simon bates told us that the video length had to be a certain length but he also said that he likes them shorter prefibly. so we thought that 2minutes was suitable enough. that's what we aimed for. at the end of the day we had got somewhere, but we only had a day left to finish it for the rough cut deadline. the rough cut would then be taken to bourneworth and be criticised by post-graduates with editing skill. they would tell us what to improve on and such.

editing the fiver promo

on monday we began editing for the junction promo. the other groups were doing there own videos so i was only working with alex and hayden. the footage that was taken at the fiver night had already been uploaded so the first thing we did was we went through it and put a star next to the footage we liked and thought would work in our promo video. we knew what our idea was so it wasn't hard going through the footage and pulling out stuff we knew would work. there was a lot of footage though so this pretty much took the entire morning.
once we did that we quickly put together an intro that would work. we weren't after anything final but what we came up with was brilliant. what hayden managed to do was cut to a drum beat that was taken from the sound check footage. the idea being that the drum beat would get quicker and quicker (rapid cutting) and then the finaly would be the fiver. we decided to keep the 30seconds sequence that we had made. i liked it but i didn't think it would make a good introduction. the footage was all from the sound check and we needed to explain everything. not just the sound check. if we put that at the beginning it wouldn't be in the correct order.
while hayden carried on editing the sequence and trying to find a way to make the idea work, me and alex sat down and wrote out a storyboard for what the video would entail. simon bates (our client) loved the navy advert style of video so we worked from that. we knew from our pitch what the video was going to be like. what we did was we wrote down what we needed to include, information and such, and then wrote down short sentences that we could use to narrate the promo.
at the end of the day we had managed to come up with a easy to follow storyboard and we had already got 30seconds of footage that we could use. i still wasn't sure we should use it but i was fine with keeping it at theis early stage.

the fiver night

once the night had started it was really hectic. communication had to be perfect so right before the first band went on stage, i held a meeting backstage with everyone. we all discussed what should be filmed and who should do it. i suggested that while the bands on stage we film the band, everyone doing a different angle. then once the band are coming off, me and mike go and interview them and they can explain their experience. we thought that this was a good system and that's pretty much what we stuck to as well. the first band went on stage, i stood at the back and held the camera high to get a shot of the stage as a whole. a good establishing shot. everyone else were in various places. on stage in the corner, backstage, to the side, in the pit. then when the band went off i went and interviewed them, it was so much fun and everyone treated us like professionals. this was the routine of the night, before i had to go at 9.00. just before i left i handed my equipment to mike and told him what else we needed to film and get footage for.

before the fiver started

once we got to the junction, we met up with simon bates and he took us to the room where the fiver would be playing that night. a band were on stage and doing sound checks at this time. nick told us to get the camera's out and get some footage. it wasn't just me who was filming at the junction.there were a few of us. there was me, sam, mike and dave filming the junction. then there was kirk taking photos which could be used for the documentry.

while some of us were capturing footage of the sound check. simon bates showed me and nick the room that we'd be able to go to during the night and relax for a few moments. it wasn't anything special but it was a room where we could drop our stuff off and sit down for a few moments. we would be on our feet for the entire night otherwise.

once simon had showed me that everyone dropped off their stuff and left it in the room, including the empty camera bags and tripods that weren't being used. it was a place where we'd know where to find things. if we needed a tripod at any point during the night we knew that they'd be one in the room. that goes the same for batteries as well. the battery charger was on standby just in case we needed it. me and mike then went to interivew simon bates for the documentry footage. while mike set up the tripod and camera i talked to simon about what sort of questions i was going to ask him and how the filming process was going to work. i told him that we would leave it filming until the questions had been answered and that if he did make a mistake, he should simply pause and start again. this format helps editing a great deal. once i had wrote down my questions and clarified with simon we were ready to begin.

the interview went really well i thought. the only thing i'll say about it is that simon bates does like to talk, but we got it all done and had a lot to edit through which was good. half way through the interview after he had answered a question i said to him that i think we should keep the answers slightly shorter, and he was fine with that. after we did the interview, i asked simon if he thought gary would be available for an interview yet. gary is the manager of the fiver night and he runs the night. he was obviously very busy but we got a chance to interview him quickly. he told us about how things were going so far and what to expect as the night went on. he also explained what he was doing to help us out as well, the creative and media students.

after doing the interivews from the staff i then went on to interview the bands. this was a lot of fun. they were all really helpful and did everything we wanted from them. i interviewed nearly all the bands, i also interviewd the parents of one of the younger bands. they explained what the fiver was and what a great oppitunity it is for bands to play infront of an audience. they pretty much sold the fiver with what they said. i also filmed one of the older bands talking with the younger band. they were really nervous so i thought the band talking to them and helping them would make great footage.

gary gave us all backstage passes which meant we could go anywhere on sight to film what we needed. this was great because it meant not needing to worry about having to talk to people when you want to go backstage or go on stage to film. it also made me feel important and in control. before the fiver started we just went round and filmed everything. we filmed backstage, we filmed the soundcheck stuff including the sound technician changing the settings. me and sam also went outside and interviewd some of the audience who were queuing up outside. the closer it got to the fiver starting, the more hectic it got. but it was great fun and a real rush.

day of filming at the junction

today we got into college as normal and started preparing for the shoot at the junction. we made sure all the cameras had the right programing and that the batteries were fully charged. we made sure all the camera bags had everything in they needed. we also made sure there were tapes for the cameras. once we made sure we had everything, including tripods and such, we headed off to the junction. we walked from college, which only takes about 10 minutes. once we got there we began filming the footage we needed for the promo and documentry videos.

similar interaction to my interaction with junction

junction young ambassadors

the Junction Young Ambassadors are a group of young people from Cambridge who assist the Junction in plans and decisions made towards making it a more youth-friendly environment. they have been running since March 2009 and projects included working with Architecture graduates to design a new front Foyer for the Junction building and running a ‘Youth Summit’ which invited teenagers to the Junction to participate ideas to the ‘Summer Intensive programme’.

here is a link to their official site http://takeoverthejunction.wordpress.com/

the young ambassadors designed their own logo for the group. here is an image of the group designing ad sketching out ideas for what the logo could look like.

the logo above is the final logo the group designed.

this interaction with the junction is quite similar to my project. there's a clear collaboration between students and client and the the interaction between then gives the students a chance to try out new things, such as working at the junction.

promotional video - jeff hardy goodbye

this was a promotional video made for when jeff hardy left smackdown. it features a few similarities with the promo video we made for the junction. the beginning of the promo video is a little slow and builds up around 45seconds into it. after that the cutting gets more rapid and the cuts go with the music. this is a lot like our promo video. the rapid cutting and flare effect used on the action scenes in the smackdown promo are almost identical to our promo video.

theres a light effect on the beginning part of the jeff hardy video which is similar to an effect we had on our rough cut but eventually got rid of because of the feedback we got at bourneworth. the length of the promo video is similar to ours aswell. thats something that usually stays the same, promo video lengths are usually between 3-4minutes. especially with music video promos. the promo video for smackdown is about 1minute 40seconds. i think our promo is similar to this. the song that we used in our promo video is rock and the music for the jeff hardy goodbye promo follows the same genre, though its a song that features a slow beginning that fits the feeling of saying goodbye to someone.

overall there aren't a lot of similarities between the two but then again they're promoting 2 completely different things. one is for a arts venue and one is promoting wrestling. its interesting to point out similarities between 2 completely different genres of promo video though. even though they arent the same type of video, they still have things about them that you can compare and you can point out similarities as well as differences.

action plan

we we intend to do now is write down a storyboard of shots that we can include and try and think of a way to stretch the videos length somehow. we realised that if we did it the same way as the navy advert, it would pretty much be the same length. i'm going to the junction soon to film the fiver night. i'll make sure to get all the nessesary shots for our video. i won't be the only one filming so they'll be plenty to go through in the editing room.

what simon thought of our pitch

after showing simon the videos we had got up, the navy video, the acdc video and the rapid cuts videos, he instantly said that he was happy already. he said that he liked the way we were trying to appeal to the target audience. by selecting inspirtation from things that people of the target audience can respond to. he loved the navy advert style as well. in fact, he said that that was the thing that sold him the idea. he thought that the rapid cutting and speed of the advert was brilliant and could really work in the promo. he liked the acdc music video style effect as well. he said that it added something and made the live footage jump out. he said that it would capture the drama of the night. after discussing with him all of our ideas, he gave us a green light.

next meeting with simon

simon came in today to hear our ptich ideas for the promo video. each group had a different idea and he went around and then discussed it with each group. he then told us his thoughts and feelings, finishing it off wiv a green light, amber light or red light. he went to our group first and was impressed with the ideas. after going around nobody got a red light. meaning, he liked all the ideas. there were afew ambers mind you.

ideas for promo

this is a video of the channel 4 ident. the idea for the idents was that something would be making the shape of the 4 logo, but only in a specific place. we like this idea and want to incoorporate it somehow, possibly with the fiver logo. it's only a possibility as we might not get enough time on the day we go to shoot at the fiver event. like the rapid cutting, people will instantly recognise where the ideas came from and they'll c0onnect with it. it just so happens that channel 4 is most popular with younger people anyway. it will appeal to our target audience.

ideas for promo

this is a video that someone made in the style of shaun of the dead. the films shaun of the dead and hot fuzz both have a destinct style about them. they both incoorporate rapid cutting, like the ones in the navy advert. we want to take this cutting style and incoorporate it into our promo video. we think it will appeal more to the target audience more due to the fact that it's quick and fast. also, hot fuzz and shaun of the dead are both hugely popular films amoung people of this age so the effect wil be easily connected and people will understand the link.

ideas for promo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrOQNJNzD1g

this is a link to a acdc music video called, 'rock n roll train'. while i was coming up with ideas for the promo video of the junction, i remembered a video i watched that had some great live footage on it. it was a very defined style and effect that made the live footage look so much better. a light flare effect was used over it to make it stand out more. i found the video and watched it and thought that the effect would look great over the footage at the junction. when simon bates comes in to hear our ideas we'll show him the video and i'll explain to him what it is we want to do.

ideas for promo

this is an advert for the navy. the way its done is the narration gives all the iformation but it's very rapid and quickly cut as well. each narration has one shot so the image stays in your mind. me and my group liked the way that it was very quick, our client doesnt like long videos, and gets the information across in a rapid way. though it's quick and not terribly long, it still gives away valuable information that a 3minute video could have done as well. this video is just over 30seconds in length. it goes to show that videos don't have to be long to give good information thats accurate.

this video has inspired us to make a promo video with the same rapid quality this video has. we also like the narration and one shot per sentence is good to. it works really well as an advert and we believe the same formatt could make a good promo that will appeal to the client. we will show him the video and tell him about our ideas when he comes in to our colleg for the next meeting.

spy live, promotional video for cambridge film festival 2009

i remember seeing this promotional video for the cambridge film festival while i was doing volunteer work there last year. i remember it being talked about as an interesting way to advertise such an event. people mocked it's style and thought that it was worthy component for a student film. i don't think that's fair at all. i really like it's use of style. it's in the same style as 1930's black and white thrillers and the angling is much like hitchcocks contemporary shot types in films such as vertigo or the birds. it's also very film noir. the shadowing and eery atmosphere makes it a great representation of a nostalgic thriller.

if i compared this to my promotional video for the junction fiver, it would be very different. it's because their promoting different things, using different styles and using different ways of expressing the desired message. the promotional video for the film festival is showing you what to expect from the festival. arts house films and independant movie maker pieces. and also old cinema, the picutre house plays older films as well, not just new releases. the music fits the style of the promo, it's a tense orchestral piece that builds up slowly. this reflects in the editing as well. our promo video for the fiver is fast paced, much like the rock music on top of the video giving it pace, and follows different rules and expectations. we were given a brief to stick to. we needed to make it quick, appealing to 14-17 year olds and to be informative. the promo for the picture house isn't any of these things.

the one thing that is similar in the two videos is the use of music complimenting the style of the video. the promo for the festival is gritty and atmospheric and this translates in both the visuals and the music. our promo video is quick and snappy and this too translates in both the visuals, with use of live footage, and music, also live music recorded on the night to give it an extra element.

promo research - ducati

this is a video promoting a motocycle. though this isn't the same kind of video as a promo video for a arts venue, it does have attributes that are nessesary in promo videos. It only features the good parts. this sounds silly but what i mean is it doesnt show anything that isn't important. for instance, the bike ha a distinct look and sound about it so the video picks up on that a lot. the music in the video is quite loud and fast paced, dance music almost. this compliments the bike well, picking up on the sound quality of the bike.

promo research

this is a video promoting a arts festival. the information included in the video is very simple. it gives a list of people who will be included and what it has to offer. the video is all done using after effects, theres no live footage. this is something that my client wants. he wants there to be live footage in the promotional video.

strawberry fair short film festival

Every year, strawberry fair hosts a small scale film festival in which young and local film makers get the chance to submit their short films and have them shown at the fair, in 2010 however with the cancellation of the fair the local council has agreed to host the short film festival now known as “ Strawberry shorts Film Festival” as part of their “The Big Weekend” where the festival will be held on Parkers Piece in the centre of Cambridge.

pitch for simon

the idea we came up with for the promo video is called, 'a day in the life of the fiver'

what that means is the promo will perfectly illustrate what the fiver is and what kind of experience it is. the target audience are bands, so the video will show the fiver night from the perspective. the format of the video will be like the navy advert where we got our inspiration from.

the narration will move the video and along with the imagery, give all the information nessesary for bands watching to find out how to apply and get a chance to live the dream. we reckon the video will be about 2-3 minutes long. it will be rapid and fast paced.

the brief for the project

The Brief: Create a Promo for The Fiver

• Background Information

• The Junction Fiver is a successful established brand that is gaining credibility as one of the best youth events in Cambridge

• Five local young bands at varying stages of development perform in Junction 1 (850 capacity live music venue), tickets cost a Fiver!

• The Bands are given a set amount of tickets to sell from which they take £1 per ticket, the more they sell the better they do financially and the more audience there is in the venue

• The Fiver aims to encourage and nurture emerging acts and provides a platform for young musicians to work with professional technicians, a top class PA system and exposes them to an audience five times their normal size

• The Junction needs to continue to attract new bands in order to keep this brand going and must increase the presence of the event on its own website and amongst social networking sites and forums

The Brief: Create a Promo for The Fiver

• Level 3 Independent Unit

– Level 3 students will produce a promotional film for The Fiver for The Junction website

– The film must have the following content:

• Live footage of The Fiver
• What the requirements are for getting in
• What you get if your band is accepted
• How to apply
– It must look contemporary, fast, appealing to the 14 – 17 age group and supply all the relevant information

– Films will be judged by a panel of senior staff and, if the standard is high enough one film will be chosen and used on the website

Planning sessions should be planned for the week commencing 8th Dec and scheduled in advance with Gary Brown and Simon Talbot

18th December – Filming of Fiver

answers from client

video promo video must be between 3/5 minutes long, though shorter is best.

no achieve footage footage to hand from the junction.

must be all of our own shoot footage used within the final media video.

want very good quality footage of the junction to be used, live footage with loads of quality sound effects and such.

bands usually get invited to play at the fiver, after looking into their myspace page and picking the best bands/ songs. it is also judges on the amount of fans they have. for example, the more fans they have the more chance they have at playing at the junction.

the running order of the promo and documentary is vital to success of the completed video overall.

can make junction logo, but don't change the font or the logo around too much. keep the same branding throughout the video.

tickets have model release cover, so we are allowed to film crowd shots within the videos.

19th is the confirmed date of the junction fiver night.

we can film backstage if we wish too at the fiver event. you'll be given backstage passes

do not dilute the junction branding, it must be the same if used.

mid-march is the final deadline for the finished videos.

sound check with bands, interviews would look great.

use lots of cutaway footage to make it look interesting and funky.

no cherry picker or any other machinery can be used due to health and safety.

music from the fiver night has to be used in the videos at some point, especially the fiver promo.

no other music can be used unless it applies to the fiver night.

possible, two fixed angles to film the fiver.

make sure documentary crew film the promo crew filming the promo footage on the night of the fiver event.

gary cannot work with us on the fiver night as he'll be too busy.

possible oppitunity for custom light show during sound checks

collect loads of footage.

simplistic yet stylish video

make sure to include everyones skill within the video. i.e. directing, camera operator skills etc.

interviews with staff at junction and also educational staff at long road must be included within the documentary.

interviews with cram students in level 2 will work well in the documentary.

documentary should last between 5-10minutes. the promo should last between 3-5 minutes.

along side creating a promo video for the junction fiver, the junction also want a documentary making about the junctions collaboration with creative and media students. Skill set have given the junction a budget in which we can create a documentary an once it's finished it will be shown around the country as a way of promoting the diploma.

we got split into 5 groups in the class. 3 groups were doing the fiver promotional and 2 groups were assigned with doing the work for the documentary.

the groups were:

promo groups 1:
james
hayden
alexander

promo group 2:
laurence
sam
ash

promo group 3:
tara
matt L
tim

documentary group 1:
kirk
mike
philippa
alie

documentary group 2:

joe

in these groups we're working together and designing a video per group. we're then showing the rough cuts to the client and he's going to choose one that he wants improving.

What the junction want

The junction want us to make a promotional video to advertise the fiver night. It needs to appeal to local bands as they're the target audience.

the junction - what i could do

The local arts venue close by to college, called the junction, is looking for a way to promote the fiver. the fiver is a local band night where they 5 bands get the chance to perform infront of a big live audience and it's only 5 pounds to get entry. It's popular but they usually have the same bands playing. what they want is they want a promotional video made to appeal to local bands who haven't necessarily heard of the fiver night. The promotional video has to be aimed at bands, not people who might want to go. Though I'm sure it will appeal to them as well. I like this idea best because it means that i get the chance to make a video. I've worked with the guys at the junction before as well so working with them again will be more relaxed but exciting still.

addenbrookes - what i could do

Some people from Adenbrookes hospital came to our class the other month and asked if we could design a poster for them. At the moment their looking for students to work there and receive training in nursing. A poster put round the local colleges could help promote the cause for new workers and would help Adenbrookes a lot. Though this isn't what i wanted to do (wanted to make a video) it would still give me experience working with a client and interacting with them meeting their needs in terms of brief.

the picturehouse - what i could do

The local cinema in my town called the picturehouse always looks for new ways to promote the cinema. I worked with them for the cambridge film festival last year. i could get in touch and see if there's a way they could help me out with regards to my course.

There was word last year that the ressession had an effect on the cinema so promoting the picturehouse with a video could be beneficial.

welcome to interaction

For this project we have to get in touch with a client and produce something for them. I want to try and look for a company where i can produce a video because i've had more experience doing that then say, a piece of artwork. I want to be able to produce something that looks good and something i've had plenty of experience doing because then it will be of a higher standard.
