before the fiver started

once we got to the junction, we met up with simon bates and he took us to the room where the fiver would be playing that night. a band were on stage and doing sound checks at this time. nick told us to get the camera's out and get some footage. it wasn't just me who was filming at the junction.there were a few of us. there was me, sam, mike and dave filming the junction. then there was kirk taking photos which could be used for the documentry.

while some of us were capturing footage of the sound check. simon bates showed me and nick the room that we'd be able to go to during the night and relax for a few moments. it wasn't anything special but it was a room where we could drop our stuff off and sit down for a few moments. we would be on our feet for the entire night otherwise.

once simon had showed me that everyone dropped off their stuff and left it in the room, including the empty camera bags and tripods that weren't being used. it was a place where we'd know where to find things. if we needed a tripod at any point during the night we knew that they'd be one in the room. that goes the same for batteries as well. the battery charger was on standby just in case we needed it. me and mike then went to interivew simon bates for the documentry footage. while mike set up the tripod and camera i talked to simon about what sort of questions i was going to ask him and how the filming process was going to work. i told him that we would leave it filming until the questions had been answered and that if he did make a mistake, he should simply pause and start again. this format helps editing a great deal. once i had wrote down my questions and clarified with simon we were ready to begin.

the interview went really well i thought. the only thing i'll say about it is that simon bates does like to talk, but we got it all done and had a lot to edit through which was good. half way through the interview after he had answered a question i said to him that i think we should keep the answers slightly shorter, and he was fine with that. after we did the interview, i asked simon if he thought gary would be available for an interview yet. gary is the manager of the fiver night and he runs the night. he was obviously very busy but we got a chance to interview him quickly. he told us about how things were going so far and what to expect as the night went on. he also explained what he was doing to help us out as well, the creative and media students.

after doing the interivews from the staff i then went on to interview the bands. this was a lot of fun. they were all really helpful and did everything we wanted from them. i interviewed nearly all the bands, i also interviewd the parents of one of the younger bands. they explained what the fiver was and what a great oppitunity it is for bands to play infront of an audience. they pretty much sold the fiver with what they said. i also filmed one of the older bands talking with the younger band. they were really nervous so i thought the band talking to them and helping them would make great footage.

gary gave us all backstage passes which meant we could go anywhere on sight to film what we needed. this was great because it meant not needing to worry about having to talk to people when you want to go backstage or go on stage to film. it also made me feel important and in control. before the fiver started we just went round and filmed everything. we filmed backstage, we filmed the soundcheck stuff including the sound technician changing the settings. me and sam also went outside and interviewd some of the audience who were queuing up outside. the closer it got to the fiver starting, the more hectic it got. but it was great fun and a real rush.
